Education, Support, & Events for Home Educators

WHO ARE WE?
YCHE is a non-profit organization led by a volunteer board of veteran home educators.  The mission of YCHE is to provide support for the home educators in the Yellowstone Valley area of Montana.  In addition, YCHE works to maintain the right to home school in Montana.  YCHE offers an active community both online and in person to hundreds of home schooling families.

NEW TO HOME SCHOOLING?
Your first step is to comply with Montana Law by submitting a letter to your county Superintended of Schools stating your intent to home school.  This is required for students who are between the ages of 7 and 16 on the first day of school.  The letter of intent serves as notification that you intend to home school for the current or remaining academic year.

We recommend your second step be to join the YCHE Community.  This is a diverse community willing to share their experiences and resources with each other such as sample letters of intent, transcript templates, and curriculum advice.  YCHE uses both a Facebook page and a Yahoo Group Email Loop to stay in contact, notify of upcoming events and field trips, and share files.

YCHE also offers:
  • Home School LIVE – an annual kick-off for all YCHE families held in August
  • Boot Camp & Book Sale – Usually held in June, this is a day of break-out sessions for parents combined with a used curriculum and book sale.  Break-out session topics usually include: New to Homeschooling, Co-op Learning, and Homeschooling High School.
  • Support for the following volunteer organized opportunities:
    • Scripps Spelling Bee
    • National Geographic GeoBee
    • Billings Clinic Science Expo
    • Iowa Basic Testing
